MANAGEMENT OF NORMAL PUERPERIUM

Bladder Care:

  • After delivery, the patient should be encouraged to pass urine as per his convenience. Sometimes, the patient’s position is not proper or the patient cannot pass urine due to pain from perineum injury. Then, the patient should be properly provided with privacy. Then, the patient should be encouraged to urinate and if the patient cannot pass urine, then catheterization should be done properly. Continuous catheterization should be kept until the bladder tone returns. Proper bladder care should be used to prevent infection and cystitis.

Bowel Care:

  • Early ambulation and proper diet reduce the problem of constipation. Adequate fiber-rich food and fluids do not cause bowel problems and if required, mild laxatives should be provided to the patient such as mild milk of magnesia 4-6 teaspoons at bed time.

The patient gets adequate amount of sleep to support them physically and mentally.
