SOCIAL STRATIFICATION (Social Stratification):

  • Social stratification is found in all groups and is transmitted from one generation to the next.
  • Social stratification is a hierarchy of positions in terms of economic production that influences the social rewards for those in positions.
  • In general, social stratification refers to the ranking of individuals and groups in any society.
  • Social stratification is the establishment of hierarchical arrangements and social categories.
  • Social categories that can develop into social groups and statuses and their corresponding roles.
  • These inequalities in the division of society indicate that some people receive more rewards than others.
  • Social stratification is defined in many ways but is primarily defined as institutional inequalities, such as inequalities in power, wealth, and status of individuals.
  • The status in inequalities is found everywhere.
  • Social stratification is a subdivision of society based on power, prestige, and wealth.
  • According to Bobby Lone’s English Dictionary, social stratification means the process of forming social classes. It is the study of classes or levels in society. Classification is often based on occupation and political power.
  • Social structure can be viewed as the differentiation of positions and social roles in a hierarchical order. This is sometimes referred to by sociologists as institutional inequality. As a social process, it is viewed as the division of society into social classes. It is a means of maintaining the status quo or for social change. Develops in competitive and conflictual social groups.

According to borgardus :

A community is a social group in which people have a sense of belonging and live in a specific area and interact with each other and have relationships with each other.

According to m.c.manzer):

A society in which people live in a specific geographical area is called a community

According to A.W. Greene:

A community is a group of people who live together in a certain area and have a similar standard of living.

TYPES OF STRATIFICATION SYSTEM:

  • Open system (open system)
  • Closed system

Open system (open system)

  • This is also known as a class system.
  • In this type of class, points in social stratification are rewarded according to merit.
  • And rank systems are linked to individual achievements. Status is said to be achieved based on what a person achieves and what he can do with his own efforts.

Closed system System)

  • This type of social stratification system is known as a caste system where status is defined as characteristics that determine position.
