INFANTOMETER

This is an equipment to measure the length of the infant.

After putting this infant to bed, its extremity is straightened and crown hill length is taken.

After placing the infant in it, its head and heel should be touched on both sides.

It is an important tool to assess the growth parameters of the infant.

It is available in different plastic and steel materials. It has a scale for measuring 80 to 100 centimeters in length.

AMBU bag

Its full form is the artificial manual breathing unit.

It is used to provide artificial respiration in emergency and critical conditions. It is used in the procedure of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

It is available in 1000 ml in adult, 500 ml in pediatric and 250 ml in neonate.

While using ambu bag, gentle pressure is given with thumb and index finger in C shape so that the part of the child from nose to chin is covered and air does not leak. Artificial respiration is given by applying pressure to the part of the bag.

MASK

A mask is used to give oxygen or artificial respiration to the child.

This mask is available in different sizes according to the age of the child.

Apart from giving oxygen, this mask is also useful for giving anesthesia.

While applying the mask on the face, check that it covers the part of the face completely.

MICRO DRIP SET

It is used to give IV solution in small amount in neonate or infant.

It contains 60gtt/ml drops which means 60 drops gtt factor in 1 ml.

A certain amount of medicine and iv fluid is given by him.

STADIOMETER

It is used to measure the height a child can stand.

The height of the child is measured in the scale by keeping the child standing at its base so that its occipital bone, shoulder, buttock and heel part of the foot touch the back part of the child.

The head piece above it is movable which is adjusted to measure the height of the child’s head.

MEASURE TAP

This tape is used for anthropometric assessment of the child, measuring its length, head and chest circumference.

It has both inch and centimeter scale.

A special tape (Shakir tape) is used to measure the mid upper arm circumference of the child. This is a useful tape for nutritional assessment of the child.

NEBULIZER WITH MASK

This is an equipment for giving medicine to a child through inhalation route. In which bronchodilators and steroid medicines are given in vapor form through inhalation.

It is used in children with respiratory disorders, pneumonia, cough etc.

The prescribed medicine is administered in vapor form through a nebulizer after placing the child in a medicine cup in a sitting position.

OXYGEN HOOD

This is a box made of plastic in which humidified oxygen is introduced through a tube into the box.

This can be given to babies who are breathing on their own but need oxygen.

In this the flow rate of oxygen is kept at 6 to 10 L/min.

Keep checking the baby’s position and oxygen concentration.
