BODY CAVITIES AND REGIONS OF ABDOMINAL CAVITY
Spaces in Body are called Cavities. Important organs are arranged in this cavity. These organs are supported and protected by Cavities. Due to Cavities each of these organs are arranged separately from each other and can maintain their normal position in the body.
The following large cavities are located in the body.
Cranial Cavity
Thoracic Cavity
Abdominal Cavity
Pelvic Cavity
There are also some small cavities in the body like..
Orbital Cavity
Nasal Cavity
Oral Cavity etc
Cranial Cavity.
This Cavity is formed by the cranium bones. Which is seen at the top of the head. Inside this cavity, the most important organ is the brain. Surrounding the brain is a tissue layer called the meninges. This layer is arranged continuously around the brain and spinal cord.
Thoracic Cavity.
Thoracic Cavity is also called chest Cavity. This cavity is located in the upper part of the chest. This Cavity is formed by the ribs, sternum bone, clavicle bone and thoracic vertebrae.
Important organs like lungs, heart, trachea, bronchi, esophagus etc. are located inside this cavity.
A layer of tissue is arranged around this cavity called the pleura.
Thoracic cavity also contains smaller cavities like pleural cavity, mediastinum cavity and pericardial cavity.
Abdominal Cavity.
Below the thoracic cavity lies the abdominal cavity. It is separated from the thoracic cavity by the diaphragm muscles.
Important organs like stomach, intestine, pancreas, liver, kidney etc. are located in the abdominal cavity.
Surrounding each organ of this cavity is a tissue layer called peritoneum.
Abdominal cavity is divided into 9 (Nine) regions according to its location.
Pelvic Cavity.
Beneath the abdominal cavity lies the funnel-shaped pelvic cavity. The Cavity is formed by two innominate bones and the sacrum bone.
The organs of the urinary system and the organs of the male and female reproductive tract are located in this cavity.
Abdominal Cavity is mainly divided into nine different regions according to its location which are as follows. According to this region, the exact location of each organ in the abdominal cavity can be determined.
Right hypochondriac region
Epigastric region
Left hypochondriac region
Right lumbar region
Umbilical region
Left lumbar region
Right iliac fossa region
Hypo gastric region
Left iliac fossa region.
